What is an Adobe XD to Figma converter for?
Adobe stopped developing XD and many teams have moved to Figma, but their projects are still stored in .xd files that Figma can’t open. Redrawing every screen by hand takes days. This tool reads the .xd file and builds one SVG per artboard that Figma imports as editable layers.
An .xd file is a package that describes every layer. The converter translates it into SVG: rectangles with their rounded corners, ellipses, lines, paths and boolean shapes, groups, masks, solid, gradient and image fills, strokes and dashes, opacity, blend modes, drop shadows and layer blur. Text arrives as editable text with its font, size, line height and colour, and every layer keeps the name it had in XD.
When it’s done you see a preview of each artboard. Copy a single one (it becomes a frame in Figma) or all of them at once, laid out as on the XD canvas, and paste with Ctrl+V. You can also download the SVG of each artboard, one SVG with all of them, or a ZIP. We also list the fonts the design uses so you can install them before pasting.
Everything happens in your browser: the file is never uploaded. The free try converts one .xd file with all its artboards; with ToolStudio Pro you get unlimited use and can convert several files at once.
How do I move an Adobe XD design to Figma?
- Drag your .xd file onto the page or click to choose it.
- Click “Convert to Figma” and wait a few seconds.
- Click “Copy SVG” on the artboard you want (or on “All artboards”).
- In Figma, click the canvas and paste with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac). You can also download the SVG and drag it into Figma.
When should you convert XD files to Figma?
- Migrating a team’s Adobe XD projects to Figma.
- Reusing screens, icons or illustrations from an old .xd file in a new design.
- Opening an .xd file from a client or agency without having XD installed.
- Moving an XD design system into a Figma library.
- Getting an XD artboard as SVG for the web or for Illustrator.
What is kept and what isn’t
- Input: Adobe XD files (.xd) saved on your computer, up to 200 MB.
- Output: one SVG per artboard, one SVG with all artboards, or a ZIP; ready to paste into Figma.
- Kept: shapes, paths, groups, masks, images, colours, gradients, strokes, opacity, shadows, layer blur, text and layer names.
- Not kept: prototype interactions, background blur, component states, repeat grids (they arrive as groups) and responsive resize settings.
- XD cloud documents must first be saved as a local file (File › Save As).
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I open an .xd file directly in Figma?
No. Figma doesn’t import Adobe XD files. This tool converts the .xd file into SVG, a format Figma does import as editable layers: copy it and paste with Ctrl+V, or drag the downloaded file onto the canvas.
Is the text still editable in Figma?
Yes. Text becomes SVG text with its font, size, line height and colour, and Figma imports it as text layers. Install the fonts we list first: if Figma can’t find a font, it replaces it.
Does each artboard become a Figma frame?
If you copy or download each artboard separately, each one becomes a frame with its exact size. The “All artboards” option pastes them together, laid out as in XD, inside a single frame.
What happens to components and repeat grids?
They keep their look and their layers, but arrive as plain groups: Figma can’t import components from an SVG. You can turn them back into components in Figma with “Create component”.
Does it work with Adobe XD cloud documents?
You need the .xd file on your computer. If the design lives in Adobe’s cloud, open it in XD and choose File › Save As to keep a local copy.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened and converted in your own browser. It is never uploaded to a server and never leaves your computer, so you can use it with client work and confidential projects.
Is it free?
You get one free try: convert one .xd file with all its artboards. For more files, or several at once, you need ToolStudio Pro, which gives you unlimited use of every tool, batch processing and no ads. Cancel anytime.
