Why change a video’s format?
Not every device or app opens the same formats. iPhone videos are saved as MOV, sometimes in HEVC, which some Windows computers can’t play; screen recordings and web downloads are often WebM, which many editors don’t accept; and MKV files can’t be uploaded to most social networks. Converting the video to MP4 with H.264 makes it compatible with practically everything.
This converter tries the fast route first: if the video already uses a codec the target format supports (for example, an H.264 MOV you want as MP4), it copies the tracks without re-encoding them. The conversion is instant and loses no quality at all. If re-encoding is needed, it uses the quality you choose (maximum, high or balanced) and the codec you prefer: H.264, H.265, VP9 or AV1.
It also extracts the audio from a video: choose MP3 for maximum compatibility, M4A (AAC) for better quality at the same size, uncompressed WAV for editing or OGG (Opus) for voice and the web. In the same conversion you can change the resolution or frame rate, remove the audio or trim a section.
Everything happens in your browser using your device’s hardware acceleration, so your video is never uploaded to a server. The free trial lets you convert one file; with ToolStudio Pro you get unlimited use and can convert many files at once and download them in a ZIP.

When to convert a video
- Convert an iPhone MOV video to MP4 to watch or edit it on Windows.
- Convert a WebM recording to MP4 to upload it to Instagram, TikTok or LinkedIn.
- Convert an MKV to MP4 to play it on your phone or TV.
- Extract the audio from a video as MP3 to listen to it like a podcast.
- Create a lightweight WebM version of a video for your website.
- Change the resolution or frame rate so an editor or projector will accept it.
Supported formats
- Input: MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV, 3GP and MPEG-TS with H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP8, VP9 or AV1 video, and AAC, MP3, Opus, Vorbis, FLAC or PCM audio.
- Video output: MP4, WebM, MOV or MKV with H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9 or AV1 (depending on what your browser can encode).

Frequently Asked Questions
Does converting a video reduce its quality?
Not if the codec is already compatible with the new format: in that case the tracks are copied as is and the video stays identical. If it needs re-encoding (for example, from an HEVC MOV to WebM), choose “Maximum” quality so the difference isn’t noticeable.
How do I convert a video to MP3?
Upload the video, choose MP3 under “Audio only”, pick the quality (192 kbps is enough for almost anything, 320 kbps for music) and click “Convert”.
Can I convert AVI, WMV or FLV?
No. They’re older formats that browsers can’t read. You can open them in VLC or HandBrake (both free) and save them as MP4; from there, this tool can convert or compress them without any problem.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Your video is read, processed and saved right in your browser using WebCodecs, the video technology built into Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. The file is never uploaded to a server, so you can use it with private or confidential videos.
Is it free?
You get one free try per tool: one file. You can reprocess that same file with different settings as many times as you like, and if something fails, your free try isn’t used up. To process new files you need ToolStudio Pro, which gives you unlimited use of every tool, batch processing (several files at once, downloaded together in a ZIP) and no ads. You can cancel anytime.
