Extract the domain from a URL

Get the hostname, registered domain, subdomain and TLD of any link, handling two-level extensions like .co.uk correctly.

Free trial: 1 URL. With Pro, unlimited use and multiple URLs at once.

Free: 1 URL. With Pro you can paste a whole list, one URL per line.

Processed in your browser: the link is never sent to any server.

How the domain extractor works

Taking the domain from a URL sounds simple until you meet shop.example.co.uk, where the registered domain is example.co.uk and not co.uk. The extractor returns the hostname, the registered domain, the subdomain and the TLD for each link.

It handles common two-level extensions such as .co.uk, .com.ar, .com.br, .com.mx, .com.au and .co.jp, and hosting platforms where each user gets their own subdomain, such as github.io, vercel.app, netlify.app and blogspot.com, so username.github.io is treated as its own site. It is not the full Public Suffix List, so a rare extension may be split differently. IP addresses are returned as they are.

Everything runs in your browser. With ToolStudio Pro you can paste a list of URLs and get one domain per line, with an option to remove duplicates and export to CSV, which is useful for cleaning backlink lists or referral reports.

How to extract a domain from a URL

  1. Paste the URL.
  2. Run the extractor.
  3. Read the hostname, registered domain, subdomain and TLD.
  4. Copy what you need (with Pro, paste a list, remove duplicates and export CSV).

When to use it

  • Turning a list of backlinks or referrers into a list of unique domains (bulk with Pro).
  • Checking which site a link really belongs to.
  • Grouping URLs by domain in a spreadsheet.
  • Building allow lists or block lists of domains.
  • Separating subdomains from the main domain for analytics or DNS work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between hostname and registered domain?

The hostname is the full name, like blog.example.co.uk. The registered domain is the part someone actually registers, example.co.uk. The rest, blog, is the subdomain.

Does it support country extensions like .co.uk?

Yes, it handles common two-level extensions such as .co.uk, .com.br, .com.mx, .com.au and .co.jp. It is not the full Public Suffix List, so some rare extensions may not be recognised.

What about IP addresses?

They are returned as they are, without domain or TLD.

Can I extract domains from many URLs at once?

Yes, with ToolStudio Pro: paste a list, get one domain per line, optionally remove duplicates and export to CSV. The free try is for one URL.

Are my URLs sent to a server?

No. The extraction happens in your browser.

How much does Pro cost?

€1.99 a month for every ToolStudio tool, unlimited use and no ads. Cancel anytime.
