Why split a PDF?
Often you only need part of a document: one chapter of a manual, the signed page of a contract or the pages of one invoice inside a long scan. Splitting the PDF lets you send exactly that, in a lighter file, without information the recipient doesn’t need.
There are three ways to do it. “By ranges” saves each range you type as its own PDF: “1-3, 4-10, 11-” gives you three files. “Every N pages” cuts the document into equal parts; with 1, each page becomes its own PDF, which is handy for separating a scan full of invoices. “Extract pages” shows thumbnails of the document so you can tick the pages you want, then saves them together in a single PDF.
Pages are copied without recompression, so they keep their quality and the text stays selectable. Everything happens in your browser: the document is never uploaded to a server.
The free trial lets you split one PDF. With ToolStudio Pro you get unlimited use and can apply the same split to several documents at once, then download them together in a ZIP.
How to split a PDF

When to split a PDF
- Separate a scan of many invoices or receipts into one file per document.
- Send only the signed page of a contract.
- Pull a chapter out of a book, a manual or a set of notes.
- Shrink a PDF that’s too big for a web form or an email.
- Divide an exam or an information pack into parts for different people.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I type page ranges?
Separate each range with a comma: “1-3, 5, 8-10” creates three PDFs (pages 1 to 3, page 5 and pages 8 to 10). “7-” runs from page 7 to the end.
Can I save every page as a separate PDF?
Yes. Choose “Every N pages” and leave the value at 1.
How do I extract several individual pages into one PDF?
Use “Extract pages”: tick the pages on the thumbnails and they’re saved together in a single PDF, in their original order.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened and processed right in your browser. It’s never uploaded to a server and never leaves your device, so you can safely use it with contracts, invoices or personal documents.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
PDFs with an open password can’t be opened without it. First remove the password in the program you created the file with (or in your PDF reader, using the password), then try again.
Is it free?
You get one free try per tool: one PDF (two for merging, one image for creating a PDF). You can reprocess that same file with different settings as many times as you like, but to process a new file you need ToolStudio Pro, which gives you unlimited use of every tool, batch processing (several files at once, downloaded together in a ZIP) and no ads. You can cancel anytime.
