Why reverse audio?

Playing a sound backwards is one of the oldest effects in recorded music: the Beatles used it in the sixties, and today it’s common in electronic production, transitions, horror effects and social media challenges where you have to guess a song or sing a line in reverse.

The tool takes every sample of the audio and puts them in reverse order. The result is exactly the same length and keeps the quality, channels and volume: only the direction changes. A reversed reverb, for example, becomes an effect that swells up into the hit, a popular way to open a track.

If you only want to reverse part of it, trim that part first with the audio trimmer, reverse it here and join it back with the rest using the audio merger.

Everything is processed in your browser. You get one free try with a single file; with ToolStudio Pro you can reverse several files at once, with no limits.

How to reverse audio

  1. Upload the audio file.
  2. Click “Reverse audio”.
  3. Listen to it backwards in the player.
  4. Download it as MP3 or WAV.

When to reverse audio

  • TikTok challenges where you sing or guess songs backwards.
  • Reverse cymbal or reverse reverb effects for productions.
  • Eerie sounds for videos, games or podcasts.
  • Hunting for hidden messages (backmasking) in songs.

Supported formats

  • Input: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, FLAC, WEBM, AIFF and the audio from MP4 or MOV videos.
  • Output: MP3 at 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps, or 16-bit PCM WAV.
  • Up to 250 MB per file. The sample rate and channels (mono or stereo) are preserved.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does reversing reduce quality?

Not during processing: the samples simply change order. Saving as MP3 re-encodes the audio; to keep it identical, download it as WAV.

Can I reverse just part of a file?

Yes: cut out that part with the audio trimmer, reverse it, and join it to the rest with the audio merger.

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

No. Your audio is read, processed and converted right in your browser using the Web Audio API. The file is never uploaded to a server and never leaves your device.

Is it free?

You get one free try per tool: one audio file. You can reprocess that same file with different settings as many times as you like, but to process a new file you need ToolStudio Pro, which gives you unlimited use of every tool, batch processing (several files at once, downloaded together in a ZIP) and no ads. You can cancel anytime.
