Why add subtitles to Reels?
Most people watch Reels with the sound off, so a video without subtitles loses much of its audience in the first second. Typing them on your phone is slow; with this tool you paste the Reel’s link and the AI generates timed subtitles in a minute or two.
It works with Reels and videos from public accounts. Our server fetches only the audio, and Whisper, OpenAI’s speech recognition model, transcribes it in your browser with punctuation and in almost 100 languages. For vertical video, choose 32-character lines in the advanced settings: the subtitles stay short and readable on a phone screen.
Download the SRT to import it into CapCut, Premiere or DaVinci Resolve and burn the subtitles in your own style, or copy the text for the caption, a blog post or a script. If the Reel belongs to someone else, use it to understand or quote their content while respecting their rights.
How to generate subtitles for a Instagram video
- Copy the link of the Instagram video (“Share” → “Copy link”).
- Paste it into the link field and press “Use link”: we fetch only the audio.
- Pick the language (or leave it on automatic) and the accuracy, then press “Generate subtitles”.
- Check the text and fix any word by clicking on it.
- Download the SRT or VTT file and upload it to your editor or social network.
What are Instagram subtitles good for?
- Subtitle your Reels so they make sense without sound.
- Import the SRT into CapCut or Edits and style it with your brand.
- Pull the text out of a Reel to write the caption or an article.
- Translate the subtitles to reach followers in other countries.
- Reuse the same video on TikTok and YouTube Shorts with subtitles.
What you get
- SRT subtitles (YouTube, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut) and WebVTT (VTT) for the web, or plain text.
- Almost 100 languages with automatic detection, plus direct translation into English.
- 42-character lines for landscape video or 32 for vertical video, as the platforms recommend.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I subtitle a Reel from a private account?
Not from the link: Instagram only lets public accounts’ posts be read without signing in. If the video is yours or you have permission, download it from the app and upload it as a file: it works the same way.
Does it work with any Instagram video?
With public videos, yes. Private videos, private accounts and videos that require signing in can’t be read from a link: in that case, download the video and upload it as a file.
How accurate are the subtitles?
We use Whisper, OpenAI’s open-source speech recognition model. With clear speech it gets the vast majority of words right; names or very specific terms may need a fix, which is why you can edit every subtitle before downloading.
What happens to the video?
To read the link, our server downloads only the video’s audio track and deletes it shortly after; we don’t keep the link or the title. The AI transcription runs in your own browser. If you’d rather nothing goes through a server, download the video and upload it as a file.
Is it free?
You get one free try: one video. If something fails, it isn’t used up. With ToolStudio Pro you get unlimited use of every tool, can subtitle many videos at once and see no ads. You can cancel anytime.
